Overview

Typical Power and Panel Distribution Lockout Kit

Hazardous Energy exists in many different forms within the workplace. For example, here are some types of energy that can cause harm to equipment and/or employees:

  • Electrical
  • Pneumatic
  • Hydraulic
  • Water
  • Gas
  • Chemical
  • Steam

In order to provide a safe workplace to employees and comply with the regulations contained within OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 (also called the control of Hazardous Energy - Lockout/Tagout), an Energy Control Program must use devices which meet the following requirements:

  • They must be used only for controlling energy
  • They must be durable and capable of withstanding the environment they are used in
  • They must be standardized by color, shape or size
  • They must be substantial enough to prevent removal (without the use of excessive force)
  • They must identify the employee applying the device
