Alternative Protective Measures

The Lockout/Tagout standard contains a Minor Servicing Exception that allows employees to perform certain activities without the need to perform full equipment Lockout. Such activities or task can be outlined using DEenergize Alternative Protective Measures (APM). Also known as Minor Permitted Tasks (MPT), Alternative De-Energization Procedures (ADP), or other similar names, all pertain to tasks permitted under the criteria outlined by the Minor Servicing Exception.
