Stored Steam Energy

Release Steam

Even after complete lockout, steam pressure may exist as a stored energy that needs to be addressed. Such potential could in supply or return circuits and could result in personnel being exposed to dangerous thermal conditions if the steam is not handled correctly.

To ensure safe conditions for maintenance, this pressure must be released in a safe manner as described by OEM or plant procedures.

Information covering sources of steam energy is available on the Steam Energy Sources page. See also the Stored Thermal Energy page.

Proper lockout/tagout can virtually eliminate the risk involved with hazardous energy.
