Even after complete lockout, gas may exist as a stored energy that needs to be addressed. Examples include the following:

To ensure safe conditions for maintenance, this stored gas pressure must be released in a safe manner as defined by the OEM or plant procedures. Be especially cautious with the release of refrigerants, toxic or explosive gases, that require specific containment practices.
