Stored Chemical Energy

Release Chemical

Even after complete lockout, chemical pressure may exist as a stored energy that needs to be addressed. Such potential could exist in supply or return circuits and could result in hazardous exposure if the chemical is not handled correctly.

To ensure safe conditions for maintenance, this pressure must be released in a safe manner as described by OEM or plant procedures.

Information covering sources of chemical energy is available on the Chemical Energy Sources page.

Proper lockout/tagout can virtually eliminate the risk involved with hazardous energy.
